Chapter 4, A survey on Qualitative data and analytic Methods

"Analytic choices are what we generate  the most sufficient answers to your research Questions, and what will best represent and present the projects findings" (90).

Analyzing data is something that I think is important when conducting research. And having a lot of data and not knowing what to do with it can make or break your research. Framing you answers can help you to navigate your research to the answers you need.

"Category Construction is our best attempt to cluster the most seemingly alike things into the most seemingly alike things into the most seemingly alike things into the most seemingly appropriate to you." (91).

This quote struct interesting to me because when you first begin you research you don't think of categorizing until you receive data. But the author here suggested that its good to categorize before you begin research in order to conduct a healthy process.  this way, you r research can be further analyze because you have Clusters of information to unpack.

"Coding and categorizing are heuristics to detect some of the possible patterns at work within the corpus, and an analytic memo further articulates your deductive, interview, and deductive thinking process on what things may mean."

This section helped me understand why the process of coding is important. Organisation of key phrases is important to analyze data but the idea of the coding being a thinking piece to the next step in research is good for progression and organisation. it is also goo to channel thought on anything new that may arrive in you process .

Research Design

Chapter 3: Research Design

Quote 1:" Finally your project must be something you yourself must be passionate about"(67).
entering my first stages of research, It is safe to say i held a very broad topic on arts engagement and the community.  But there was a lot of research already done. I began to make my research slightly more personal focusing directly on dance and the MCLA and Berkshire community. But then I began to loose passion. After some self reflection I was able to organize my own data and navigate the data I wanted to receive as well as the REAL question I wanted to ask, How do artist Develop in a community that is not their own? Out of the self reflection I generated the conversations that would get the answered to my questions, what questions to ask, who would I ask, What is the Importance. Also when i would hit a block in my research, personalizing the question or process was helpful to re-generate thought or further research.

Quote 2: "It almost always takes longer than you think it will to get what you need done"(81).

I must admit, as a college student, I am guilty of being the ultimate procrastinator. Doing a research project has taught me how to manage work in a timely manor. It has also helped me to manage life thoroughly. It was really helpful that I manage a step By step agenda of everything I had to do for My research. this helped me to better analyze what I was doing and why I was doing it. Taking a glance at the assignment before you actually commence working on it is a part of process i learned, and it helps generate thought before doing the section of the research I would tackle.  Also going back was easy due to the fact that I have reference to my thinking because I recorded the process.
