Ch 1: Qualitative Research Styles

Qualitative research is a vast term for the different approaches and methods of studying natural social life. Genres for Qualitative research include But aren't limited to
  • Ethnography
Documentation of social life in order to render an account of social life.
  • Culture
Social knowledge, not knowledge unique to an individual.
  • Phenomenology
The study of nature and the meaning of things.
  • Case Study
Focus on a single unit for analysis.
  • Etc..
Important section of this chapter would be  on Arts Based Research. The Author Jonny Sandala suggest that “Performing and visual arts media and methods sometimes collect, represent, and present their findings. “
Important to this would be evaluating research which focuses on people, Programs, Organisation, etc and asses the quality and effectiveness.  This is particularly important when  researching and Business or Arts organization due to the fact that there are so many different sections from the creative to financial sectors.

There are also many styles to Research such as ; realist ,confessional, and many many more. The all overall highlight how the information is present.  Overall, the research methods and styles must be compatible to the researcher for results to be successful.

CH 2: Data Collection And the Collector

Author Johnny Salander has very Particular Directions on how to collect your data through two particular methods. The One i'm going to blog about is the most common and probably the one i'm going to be using for my research, interview, but before we can collect the data, he suggest that we ourselves be observant of the type of data we want by simply identifying ourselves as a researcher. on page 32 he say that “ the researcher himself or herself who is generally regarded as the primary data collection instrument in Qualitative research. He says that research done by interview can range by Organising questions prior to the interview or (which I find more effective) Using  the general question and as conducting the interview  Writing down keywords to generate the conversation. I believe it brings a new stimuli to the conversation and may result in more direct data/ answers to your questions. When Transcribing the information the author suggest that you continuously refresh the content before documenting your findings. Lastly When managing your data the most important thing to do is to “Protect your data by saving it.” I would suggest this be in multiple area as to avoid  human error or unforeseen circumstances.
